Set sail with our Plymouth Settlers Unit Study Kit!

Centered around the story of the early American Pilgrims, this unit invites kids to travel across the Atlantic on the Mayflower, explore the New World, and experience the challenges and triumphs of building a new life in Plymouth Colony. From meeting Squanto and the Wampanoag people to celebrating the first Thanksgiving, your learners will discover this important part of American history through meaningful, hands-on projects.

Your kids will explore history, geography, and early American life through hands-on activities like:

  • Learn about Pilgrims
  • Set up a small-world settlement
  • Study the Mayflower and its route
  • Explore the New World
  • Build a shallop
  • Learn about the Wampanoag nation
  • Build a Wampanoag wetu
  • Discover the origin of Thanksgiving
  • Journey to Plymouth
  • And more!

Whether they’re recreating the Mayflower, building models, or acting out daily life in Plymouth, your learners will gain a deeper understanding of this era—and have fun doing it.

This unit study includes 25+ activities, organized into eight easy-to-follow, open-and-go lessons. Schoolhouse Discoveries hands-on unit studies are designed for homeschool families and can serve as a core Science and Social Studies curriculum for grades K–4 or a supplement for 5–6th grade. Each unit also weaves in Language Arts, Math, Art, STEM, Sensory Play, Cooking, Health, and Movement.

By using multiple themed kits throughout the year, families can build a complete, well-rounded curriculum rooted in hands-on, family-style learning.

Have more than one child participating?
Sibling Add-Ons are available when you order your kit. Add one for each additional child to receive another set of printed activity pages and extra supplies (not a full duplicate kit). It’s the easiest way to get everyone learning and creating together—without doubling your prep.

Perfect for homeschoolers, co-ops, or those using charter school funds or educational scholarships.

What's inside each kit?

Inside Each Kit:

  • illustrated book
  • full-color teaching guide with eight lessons and 20+ activities
  • printed activity pages
  • digital access to activity pages
  • supplemental book list
  • list of the standards covered
  • QR code with videos
  • most of the supplies needed to complete the unit study

Learning Tips

We’ve divided the learning experiences into eight sections, and we recommend doing the activities in the order suggested as some build upon the next. However, you don’t need to complete all the lesson activities at once if that’s too much for your schedule. Just pause and pick up where you left off next time. Doing these activities two days a week will take four weeks to complete the unit. The activities in this kit were designed for K to 4th graders. But we know kids are at all different levels and interests, so feel free to skip or add-to an activity if it isn’t right for your child(ren). That’s what Schoolhouse Discoveries are all about - having fun learning and finding ways that best fit your needs.
