Step into history with our American Revolution Unit Study Kit!
Centered around the book The History of the American Revolution by Emma C. Berne, this unit invites your kids to explore the key people, events, and ideas that shaped the founding of the United States.
They’ll travel back in time to the 1700s and dive into colonial life, early acts of rebellion, and the birth of a new nation through immersive activities like:
- Learning American Revolution vocabulary
- Creating a Revolution-themed small world play scene
- Mapping the original 13 colonies
- Playing a hands-on “collecting taxes” game
- Writing a petition
- Playing a Minutemen battle game
- Studying Paul Revere’s midnight ride
- Making a Continental Soldier craft
- Exploring the meaning behind the Declaration of Independence
- Crafting their own flag
This hands-on kit brings history to life with memorable, interactive lessons designed to engage kids’ curiosity and deepen their understanding of the people and principles behind America’s independence.
Schoolhouse Discoveries hands-on unit studies are designed for homeschool families and can serve as a core Science and Social Studies curriculum for grades K–4, and a supplement for 5-6th grade. Each kit includes 20+ open-and-go lessons and also weaves in Language Arts, Math, Art, STEM, Sensory Play, Cooking, Health, and Movement.
By using multiple themed kits throughout the year, families can build a complete, well-rounded curriculum rooted in hands-on, family-style learning.
Have more than one child participating?
Sibling Add-On Kits are now available as a variant option when you order. Add one for each additional child to receive another set of printed activity pages and extra supplies (not a full duplicate kit). It’s the easiest way to get everyone learning and creating together—without doubling your prep.

Learning Tips
Learning Tips
We’ve divided the learning experiences into eight sections, and we recommend doing the activities in the order suggested as some build upon the next. However, you don’t need to complete all the lesson activities at once if that’s too much for your schedule. Just pause and pick up where you left off next time. Doing these activities two days a week will take four weeks to complete the unit. The activities in this kit were designed for K to 4th graders. But we know kids are at all different levels and interests, so feel free to skip or add-to an activity if it isn’t right for your child(ren). That’s what Schoolhouse Discoveries are all about - having fun learning and finding ways that best fit your needs.
