Spartan Helmet Assembly Instructions

Before you begin...

You will be using the pre-made helmet template with the following parts (included in your Ancient Greece kit):

Part A – Face Guard
Part B – Dome (top of helmet)
Parts C & D – Helmet Band (sides)

Supplemental photos are provided for each step to assist with assembly.

1

Cut & Trace the Template

Carefully cut out all template pieces (Parts A, B, C, and D). Trace each template piece onto cardstock or cardboard, then cut out all traced pieces.

2

Paint the Helmet Pieces

Lay all cardstock or cardboard pieces flat and paint them gold or bronze. Allow all pieces to dry completely before beginning assembly.

3

Begin assembly

Attach Part C to the Face Guard

Once dry, take Part A (Face Guard) and Part C. Glue or tape one end of Part C to one corner of Part A.

4

Attach Part D to the Face Guard

Take Part D and glue or tape one end to the opposite corner of Part A (Face Guard).

5

Attach the Dome

Take Part B and glue or tape it to the top of the face guard, approximately one inch down from the tip of Part A.

Next, apply two long strips of double-sided tape along the length of Part B. If double-sided tape is not available, wrap regular tape over itself so the sticky side is facing outward and apply it in the same manner.

6

Create the Helmet Crest

Prepare the Tissue Paper

Cut two strips of tissue paper approximately 2 inches by 12 inches. Fold each strip in half lengthwise.

7

Create the Helmet Crest

Shape the Crest

Slowly scrunch each folded strip to create a feathered look along the length of the tissue paper.

8

Create the Helmet Crest

Attach the Crest

Carefully press the first scrunched strip onto the tape running along Part B. Repeat with the second strip, attaching it alongside the first to create a full crest.

9

Check and Fluff the Crest

Once the crest is fully attached, gently check that both tissue paper strips are secure along Part B. Lightly fluff and adjust the tissue paper as needed to create a full, even crest running along the top of the helmet.

10

Final Assembly

Attach the Dome to the Helmet Band

Attach Part B to Parts C and D using tape. Part B will form the dome of the helmet and should be positioned so it sits centered over the top of the helmet band.

11

Final Assembly

Secure the Helmet

Once all pieces are aligned, secure Parts B, C, and D together with additional tape as needed. Check that all connections are firmly attached so the helmet holds its shape.

12

Adjust for Fit

Place the helmet on the child’s head and gently adjust the helmet band as needed for a comfortable fit. Use additional tape to secure any loose areas and ensure the helmet stays in place.
