Dive into learning with our Deep Blue Sea Unit Study Kit!
Centered around the book The Sea Below My Toes by Charlotte Guillain, this unit invites your kids to dive into the fascinating world beneath the waves. From sandy shores to the darkest ocean depths, they'll explore marine habitats, sea creatures, and the science that helps us understand life in the ocean.
Your kids will explore ocean zones, marine life, ecosystems, and more through activities like:
- Map the world’s oceans
- Create an ocean zones jar
- Build a tide pool small world
- Explore marine animal adaptations
- Learn about echolocation
- Craft a coral reef
- Discover camouflage with sea creatures
- Investigate tidepools and beach life
- Simulate the work of marine biologists
Whether they’re crafting jellyfish, experimenting with saltwater, or building a miniature tide pool, your kids will be learning across subjects with meaningful, hands-on experiences that make marine science come alive.
This unit study includes 20+ activities, organized into eight easy-to-follow, open-and-go lessons.
Schoolhouse Discoveries hands-on unit studies are designed for homeschool families and can serve as a core Science and Social Studies curriculum for grades K–4. Each unit also weaves in Language Arts, Math, Art, STEM, Sensory Play, Cooking, Health, and Movement.
By using multiple themed kits throughout the year, families can build a complete, well-rounded curriculum rooted in hands-on, family-style learning.
Have more than one child participating?
Sibling Add-Ons are now available as an option when you order your kit. Add one for each additional child to receive another set of printed activity pages and extra supplies (not a full duplicate kit). It’s the easiest way to get everyone learning and creating together—without doubling your prep.
Perfect for homeschoolers, co-ops, or those using charter school funds or educational scholarships.

Learning Tips
Learning Tips
We’ve divided the learning experiences into eight sections, and we recommend doing the activities in the order suggested as some build upon the next. However, you don’t need to complete all the lesson activities at once if that’s too much for your schedule. Just pause and pick up where you left off next time. Doing these activities two days a week will take four weeks to complete the unit. The activities in this kit were designed for K to 4th graders. But we know kids are at all different levels and interests, so feel free to skip or add-to an activity if it isn’t right for your child(ren). That’s what Schoolhouse Discoveries are all about - having fun learning and finding ways that best fit your needs.
